Academic Achievement Celebrated as Dozens of Students Awarded Prestigious Scholarships

Student receives certificate

Each Academic Scholarship recipient received a prestigious £1,000 award for excellence in their studies at the ºÚÁÏÍø.

The scholarships are funded by generous philanthropists, including the University’s distinguished Honorary Fellows, local employers, and many successful graduates.

18-year-old Craig Price, Sports Coaching and Physical Education first-year student.

“This award has shown me that my hard work has paid off, and I’m very grateful for that. It’ll help me cover some of my living costs and I might put some of it towards some new football boots too,” said Craig.

Craig added: “It has been a challenge to get used to writing essays again after a long time, but I’ve settled into my course really well.”

This year, staff at the University have also been raising funds for scholarship and hardship support as part of the two-year Anniversaries Campaign, which marks 20 years since gaining full university status in 2005 and 80 years since its founding as an emergency teacher training college in 1946.

Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic at the University, said: “We are incredibly proud of the students who have received academic scholarships.”

Professor Moyle said: “These awards demonstrate to potential employers the outstanding achievements of our students, while providing financial support and encouragement for those who’ve earned them.”

21-year-old Tia Lippitt, Psychology third-year student.

“I’m very thankful for this award and the recognition of my effort. It feels rewarding to be acknowledged while studying a course I am really interested in and enjoy.”

Tia said: “Being awarded this prize is my proudest accomplishment at university and it reflects the effort I’ve put into my studies.”

She added: “My biggest challenge at university has been managing my part time work, volunteering, and my studies. Overcoming this has taught me resilience and organisation, which will be helpful in my future career.”

19-year-old Lauren Davey, second-year Paramedic Science student.

“My family and friends were very proud,” said Lauren. “This award doesn’t just reflect me, it also reflects them, because without their support throughout this year I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this.”

Lauren added: “Succeeding academically and gaining this award has been brilliant. I’ve been going on placements, working on the ambulance with so many amazing people, and gaining so much knowledge and experience which has been amazing.”
