Seb James graduated in 2023 with a degree in Education and Sociology and just two years later was elected as a Councillor to Worcestershire County Council.

“The ºÚÁÏÍø instilled in me, and so many others, the ability to be proud of who I am and know that we belong,” he said. “This sense of belonging and community encouraged me to stand for election. In May 2025, I defied the odds and saw myself elected as a Worcestershire County Councillor. This hard work and dedication was cemented in my time at Worcester, a university that truly pushes people to be the best version of themselves.”

The Sunday Times Young Power List highlights 30 influential British individuals under the age of 30, chosen by the section editors of the national newspaper. It includes the likes of singer Raye, cricketer Jacob Bethell, and footballer Alessia Russo, among young politicians, campaigners and actors.

“To be approached by the Sunday times as a recipient of their young power list was a real pinch me moment,” said 28-year-old Seb. “Whilst I have won awards since leaving university, none have been on such a large national scale. I hope this recognition can encourage more people into engaging in politics. Whatever the party, politics needs more young people. People who are resilient and able to react to changes, people like the ones who study at Worcester.”
